Michael C. Epps

Michael C. Epps was appointed to the Casino Control Commission by Governor Donald DiFrancesco in 2001 and was sworn into office on January 4, 2002. In December 2006, he was reappointed to a second five-year term by Governor Jon S. Corzine. Epps served as Vice Chair of the Commission in 2005 and in 2009.

Prior to his appointment, Epps was General Counsel for the Atlantic City Board of Education. Previously, he served as an associate at two New Jersey law firms. Epps has been a member of the American, New Jersey, and Atlantic County Bar Associations.

Epps also served as a commissioner of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority, a member of the Advisory Board of the First Tee of Greater Atlantic City, and a board member of the Atlantic City Special Improvement District.

Epps was the first Atlantic City native to serve on the Commission. He was born and raised in Atlantic City, attended Atlantic City public schools, and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1984. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the University of Maryland in 1988, graduated from the Howard University School of Law as a Juris Doctor in 1994, and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar that same year. He has also been admitted to the bar in Pennsylvania.

After departing from the Commission in 2011, Epps resumed practicing law. Recently, he served as the Executive Director of Governor Murphy’s Atlantic City Initiatives Office, charged with developing an implementation plan for critical elements of the Atlantic City Transition Report under the direction of the state Department of Community Affairs. Epps left that position in June 2022 and is currently with the Solicitor’s Office of the City of Atlantic City.
